Closing Your Account

Who this is for

You want to delete your keysig account and you want to know exactly what that does before you do it.

What deletion does

In the words of the Terms of Service: "Account deletion is immediate and permanent. Deleting your account permanently deletes your profile, agreements (including agreements and stored signed PDFs), , tracks, collaborators, notifications, usage history, and subscription records, and the account itself. This cannot be undone."

Two consequences worth reading twice:

  • Your signed PDFs are deleted too. Other parties who relied on your account to reach a signed agreement lose that access. The copies they were emailed when everyone signed, any copies they downloaded, and the service's own records are unaffected.
  • The agreements themselves are not cancelled. Deleting your account does not end or change anything you signed; those agreements remain whatever they are under their own terms.

A few records survive, for reasons the Privacy Policy spells out: marketing consent records, records the payment and e-signature providers must keep, copies other parties already have, and backup copies for a short time.

Before you delete

  1. Download every signed agreement you or your might need, from each agreement's page. It is free.
  2. Export your ownership data (CSV) and Export my data (JSON) from Account if you want your records.
  3. Decide what to do with a paid plan. Deleting the account cancels it with Stripe at the same time, immediately, and the rest of the paid period is not refunded; the confirmation names the plan it will cancel. If you would rather use what you have paid for, cancel from the billing portal first, which keeps the plan until the period ends, and delete after that. Billing explains.
  4. If you own a label, your account cannot be deleted until the label is transferred to someone on its roster or closed. Account says so and names the label; email hello@keysig.co and keysig does the transfer or closes it. Being a member of a label's roster is not a blocker; deleting simply takes you off it.

How to delete

  1. Open Account and go to Data and Privacy.
  2. Choose Delete account. keysig lists what will be deleted.
  3. Type DELETE to confirm, then choose Permanently delete my account.

What happens next: your paid plan, if you have one, is cancelled with Stripe first; then everything is removed right away and you are signed out. There is no grace period and no way to restore it. keysig sends no email, because the address may be the thing you asked to remove.

If something goes wrong: if Stripe will not cancel the plan, nothing is deleted, keysig says so, and you can try again in a moment. If it keeps failing, see Troubleshooting.

Asking support to do it

If you cannot sign in, email hello@keysig.co from the address on the account. keysig confirms the request is coming from that address, then runs exactly the same deletion, with the same label rule, and the same result.

If something goes wrong: if the delete button is refused, see Troubleshooting for the label-owner case; anything else, Getting help.
