Editing an Agreement

Last updated

Who this is for

You have a draft and want to read it, change something, or make a copy.

Reading it

The document has three views. Annotated is for reading: tap a numbered heading for a plain-language summary of that section, and tap any underlined term for its definition. The definition links through to the full glossary. Preview shows the agreement as it will print. Edit shows the text itself.

The summaries and definitions are explanations, not the agreement. Where a summary and the legal text differ, the legal text is what everyone signs.

Two ways to change it

Change the details. Edit details reopens the guided form with your answers filled in: fees, , dates, , tracks. When you save, keysig writes the document again from the new answers.

Change the words. Switch to the Edit view and type. keysig then marks the agreement as customized. If you later use Edit details, keysig warns you first, because rewriting from the form replaces your custom text.

What happens next, either way: the agreement stays a draft, saves itself, and nothing is charged.

Renaming a party

Names and emails are corrected in the send step, in the list of . Fix a name there and keysig rewrites it inside the document text too, so the signature block and the body agree. A party that should not be there can be removed from the same list. Adding a party is a change to the document, so that goes through Edit details.

The title, dates and tracks

  • The title is how you find the agreement later. keysig suggests one; rename it from the agreement page any time before it is sent.
  • Dates such as the are answers in the form. Change them through Edit details.
  • Tracks are linked on the first step of the form. Edit details lets you link or unlink them; the agreement then appears on each linked track's page.

Saving and versions

Edits save themselves a moment after you stop typing. Save draft saves right away and records a version. Version history, under Actions, lists every saved version and can restore one; restoring replaces the current text.

Duplicating

Duplicate, under Actions, makes a new agreement from this one. keysig asks for the new parties and a new title and writes the document again with the new names, rather than copying the old ones. The copy keeps the original's label-or-personal choice. Duplicating is free.

Pending or signed

An agreement that is out for signature is not editable as it stands. Edit details offers to take back the signing request first; the links already sent stop working and you send again after your changes. A signed agreement never changes: Duplicate and edit is the way to start from it.

Deleting

Delete agreement, under Actions, is permanent. Deleting an agreement that is out for signature the signing request as well.

If something goes wrong: see Troubleshooting, or email hello@keysig.co with the agreement title and what you were trying to change.
