Sending an Agreement for Signing

Last updated

Who this is for

You have a draft you are happy with and want to get it signed.

Before you send

  • The agreement needs a title and at least two named with email addresses: you and one other.
  • Read it in the Annotated view once more. Once it is sent, changing it means taking it back and sending again.
  • If the deal matters, have a lawyer look at it first. You can download a Word copy for that; see Redlines.

The steps

  1. Choose Send for signing on the agreement page.
  2. Check the signers. The are the parties named in the agreement, in the order listed. You are first, at your account email. Fix a name or email in place; remove a row that should not be there. Adding a signer is a change to the document, so it goes through Edit details.
  3. Sending for someone else? If you drafted the agreement with the option that someone else is signing, the first party you named signs first and you are not a signer at all. Managers and label staff use this. The credit is still yours.
  4. CC a view-only party. Optional, off by default. Up to five people, each with an email and an optional name, get a copy of the completed agreement once everyone has signed. They never sign and are not parties. An email already used by a signer cannot be added here, because signers get the completed agreement anyway.
  5. Read the credit line. It says how many credits you have left and that sending uses one; Credits and plans explains what a credit is. If a previous send of this same agreement was declined and refunded, it also says that a further decline will not be refunded again.
  6. Tick the acknowledgment that keysig is not a legal service and that you are responsible for having the agreement reviewed. The send button stays off until you do.
  7. Choose Send for signing.

What happens next

  • The agreement turns Pending straight away and one credit is used. Drafting stays free; sending is what costs.
  • The service emails each signer a private link, in order. You get yours first, with the subject line saying your agreement is ready to sign. The next person is emailed when you have signed, and so on.
  • Anyone on the agreement who does not have a keysig account also gets a short heads-up email from keysig, sent under your name, explaining what keysig is and what to expect. The is in the e-signature email, not that one.
  • Sign yours from your email. Then watch the agreement page; Tracking status explains what you will see.
  • There is one live signing request per agreement. To change anything after sending, take the request back first.

Sending again

After you take a request back, or after someone declines, sending again is a new send and uses another credit. A decline returns your credit once per agreement; a take-back does not.

If something goes wrong: a send that fails is not charged, and keysig tells you it was cancelled. If you ever see a credit used with no Pending agreement to show for it, Troubleshooting says what to send us.
